Carl B. "Brad" Lewis, Jr., 80, of 39 Lake Road, Columbia, and 6672 Estero Boulevard, Fort Myers Beach, FL, passed away peacefully after a brief illness on Friday (April 10, 2009) in Florida. His family was at his side.


Brad was born July 31, 1928 in Hartford, son of the late Carl Lewis, Sr. and Alice (MacDonald) Lewis.


Brad was predeceased by his loving wife Lorraine. He was the beloved father of two children, daughter Karen (Lewis) Vanderbilt and her husband David of Columbia and son Scott Lewis and his wife Donna of Columbia and their children Melissa Lewis R.N. and Craig Lewis.


Brad enjoyed hearing of his grandchildren's accomplishments and was very proud of them. He moved to Willimantic at a very early age, graduated from Windham High School and went on to attend the University of Connecticut. Brad was a Veteran and served in the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1954. He was stationed near Anchorage, AK during the Korean War.


After serving his country, Brad and Lorraine moved to their home in Columbia, where he resided for over 50 years. Brad also had a winter residence in Fort Myers Beach, FL overlooking the gulf, which he has enjoyed since he retired.


He was an owner and president of Capitol Garage in Willimantic where he developed many lifetime customers and acquaintances. He was also a director of the New England Chrysler Plymouth Advertising Association for a number of terms.


Brad was a lifetime member of the Willimantic Elks Club as well as a longtime member of the Columbia Lions Club and the Willimantic Country Club. He was a member of Eastern Star Lodge#44 AF & AM for over 50 years.


Brad also enjoyed dancing among a close circle of friends at the Castaways in Fort Myers Beach, as well as socializing and dining with many friends at the Holiday Inn also in Ft. Myers Beach. He especially enjoyed dining and gathering with his many friends and the staff at Leventi's in Columbia.


His Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, April 15, 2009 at 11 a.m. at Columbia Congregational Church, followed by Burial in West Street Cemetery, Columbia.
