Jerome Hovland, Ex-Navy Officer, Succumbs at 36
Lt. Cdr. Jerome Orin Hovland, 36, a resident of Los Altos, died in the Palo Verde Veterans Administration Hospital after a short illness.
He had recently retired from the U.S. Navy after 18 years of service, which included action in the Pacific during World War II. He had been stationed at several Florida bases, at Corpus Christi, Texas, in Nova Scotia, Monterey and Moffett Field.
Lt. Cdr. Hovland was a native of Outlook Mont. He is survived by his wife, Genevieve Hovland and a daughter, Donna, and a son, Karl, all of Los Altos; his mother, Mrs. Rose Hovland of Long Beach; a sister, Mrs. Dorothy Jarvis and a brother, Robert Hovland, both of Long Beach.
Funeral services will be tomorrow at 8:45 a.m. at the chapel of Roller and Hapgood, Palo Alto. Requiem mass will be at 9:30 a.m. at St. Simons Catholic Church, Los Altos. Interment will be in Golden Gate National Cemetery.
