James R."Toddy" Bowers, 75

James R."Toddy" Bowers, 75, Rossiter died Tuesday, April 14, 2009, at Indiana Regional Medical Center. He was born April, 1, 1934, in Flora, a son of the late Philip Bowers and Myrtle Gay (Gowan) Bowers.
Sept. 5, 1953, he married Nancy J. (McAfee) Bowers of Rossiter, who survives.

"Toddy" was the owner of Bowers Auto Sales and a member of the F.O.E. in Punxsutawney; a social member of the Rossiter American Legion; and the Punxsutawney Area Historical & Genealogical Society.

He retired from Interstate Amesite where he was a member of the Union of Operating Engineers Local No. 66. He enjoyed collecting guns and knives and watching westerns.

He was very generous to people and had many, many friends who affectionately called him "Wheeler Dealer." He loved time with his family most of all.

In addition to his wife, surviving relatives include two daughters, Robyn Hand and husband Ralph of Smithport, and Sheila Helman and husband Jimmie of Hillman; two grandchildren, Royale Hand and Cheyenne Helman; and a brother- and sister-in-law, Donald and Cookie Sloniger of Reynoldsville.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Jason Philip Hand; and a brother, Larry Keith Bowers.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the McCabe Funeral Home, Punxsutawney.


A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 16, 2009, at the funeral home with the Rev. Donald Brauer officiating.
Interment will follow at Devers Cemetery.
