Dorothy May Rhoades, the daughter of Henry C.
and Jessie E. Doll Atkins, was born March 25, 1908, at
Cawker City, KS. She died March 2, 1997, at her home
in Prescott, AZ., at the age of 88 years.
Dorothy grew up and attended school in the Cawker
City area and graduated from Cawker City High School
with the Class of 1926. She was proud to observe the
70th Anniversary of her graduation this past year.
On March 15, 193 l, Dorothy was united in marriage
with Paul Rhoades at Cawker City, and two sons
and one daughter were born to that union. Paul Rhoades
died October 2'1,1991, and the couple had been privileged
to celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary earlier that year.
Dorothy taught high school during World War II,
and after Paul returned from the U.S. Navy, they opened
the Riley-Rhoades Electrical Shop which later became
Wiles & Rhoades. Dorothy helped at the shop for many
years.
Dorothy was a member of the Cawker City United
Methodist Church. She greatly enjoyed her home, where
she liked to cook and do canning. She was always there
for her family and willing to help others.
Survivors include a son, James A. Rhoades and his
wife, Patty of Mayer, AZ.; a daughter, By Jo Mansfield
of Dallas, TX.; sisters-in-law, Marjorie Norlin and Charlotte
McCabe of Salina and Ruth Kennedy of
McPherson; nine grandchildren; ten great grandchildren
and one great great grandchild.
In addition to her husband. she was preceded in
death by her parents; a son, Richard Paul Rhoades; a
sister, Hazel Cloepfil; and a grandson, Richard Michael
Mansfield.
