MINERVA ANN HODGE-OLIVER-BRYARLY, according to census records, was born in 1814 in Kentucky. Family letters preserved at Duke University indicate her maiden name was Hodge, and she was of Irish & Welsh descent.

Minerva was a member of the Methodist Church. She was first married to Mr. Oliver, and they had two sons:

William Oliver (1833, TN-?) and
John Oliver (1835, MS - 1874).
It is not clear if Mr. Oliver abandoned the family or if Minerva was a widow.

Minerva married her second husband, Thomas Fitzhugh Bryarly on 25 August 1842 in Clarksville, Red River County, Texas. Thomas and Minerva had SEVEN children during the course of their marriage:

Thomas Rowland Bryarly (1843-1858),

Elizabeth Matilda Caroline Bryarly (1852-1874), and Silas Wright Bryarly (1856-1939).

Although the Family burial site has not been located, the Bryarly Family Bible has preserved record of her date of death as 23 December 1878 at the 258 1/2 acre family homestead in Mt. Pleasant, Titus County, Texas.
