James "Jim" G. Umbarger, 90, of Chattanooga, died on Monday, August 8, 2005, in a local healthcare facility.

Mr. Umbarger was a veteran of WWII where he served in the U.S. Army in the Pacific Theater. A lifelong resident of Chattanooga, he was a member of the Half Century Club.

He had worked as the Bursar of the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga for over 33 years. During his tenure there, he was associated with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and was a member of the Institute of Management and Accountants.

Mr. Umbarger was a lifelong member of Second Presbyterian Church and had served as a deacon and elder. He also held memberships with the American Legion and Senior Neighbors.

He was preceded in death by a grandson, Kenny Sharpe, and sister, Dorothy Hunter.

He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Verena R. Umbarger; three children, Judy Sharpe, Charlie Umbarger and wife, Kathy, all of Chattanooga; and Dan Umbarger and wife, Bramleta of Dallas, TX; six grandchildren, Shelly Gaddis of Chattanooga, Ellis Umbarger of Signal Mountain, Sallie Greene of Brentwood, TN, Jimmy, Terri Sue, and Keelan Umbarger all of Dallas, TX; and one nephew, Robert Hunter of Dallas, TX.

Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, at 1 p.m. in the North Chapel with the Rev. Perry McCallen officiating.

A private family burial will be held in Chattanooga Memorial Park.
