Columbus, GA – John L Thacker 65, of Columbus, GA., passed away on Tuesday, April 7, 2009 at Columbus Specialty Hospital.
Funeral services will be held 11:00AM, Thursday, April 9, 2009 at Chapel of the Pines, Parkhill Cemetery, Columbus, Ga., with Chaplain Gorrell officiating. Entombment will follow in the Masonic Mausoleum at Parkhill Cemetery.
The Family will receive friends this evening, Wednesday, April 8, 2009 from 6 to 8pm at the funeral home.
Mr. Thacker was born November 23, 1943 in Pike County, KY., to the late Mose Thacker and Vada F. Hackney Thacker. He was a retired MSG (E-8) with the U.S. Army. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge 144 of Midland, GA. and Scottish Rites. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a son, Dennis Ray Thacker; three brothers: Paul, Red, and George; and three sisters: Eva, Carrie, and Yvonne.
Mr. Thacker is survived by his wife, Christine Grimes Thacker of Columbus, GA., two daughters: Linda Carole Sumner and Jerry of Waverly Hall, GA.; Sandra Lee Pate and David of Conyers, GA.; five sisters: Pearl McKinney, Shirley Varney and Emerson, Kay Lewis, Arlene Thacker, Birdie Johnson (Birdie died May 5, 2009)and Jim; two brothers: Cannie Thacker, Sr. and Sonna; Gary Thacker; three grandchildren: Trinity Sumner, Brandon Pate, Jennifer Lee Pate-Crosen; three great grandchildren: Caleb Pate, Malia Jaide, and Bella Elise Chosen.
