DEATH OF DR. WILLIAM NEILL
News of the death of Dr William Neill in the Kelly Hospital in Baltimore on Thursday noon brought unfeigned sorrow to a host of friends in Charles Town and vicinity where he had practiced his profession for a period of forty-years. The Doctor had been a patient in the Kelly Hospital about three weeks going there from his home in Charles Town to receive attention from his son. Dr William Neill Jr. a member of the hospital staff. His condition became critical from the time of his arrival at the hospital through there were encouraging messages from his bedside at intervals that revived hope that he might recover. Dr Neill's health had been failing for some time. About a month ago, he became much worse when it was decided that better treatment could be given him at the Kelly Hospital and he was taken there. The deep concern felt for him in his last illness by people in all conditions of life attests the universal esteem in which he was held by those to whom he had ministered through a long professional career. He was deservedly popular and scores will experience a personal loss at his passing away. Dr Neill was born in Hagerstown, Md., in 1860. Following a preparatory training at St. James College Md and at the Virginia Military Institute he graduated from the Belue Medical College in New York, shortly after reaching his majority. Immediately upon graduation he began the practice of medicine in Charles Town. Early in his professional career he formed a partnership with the late Dr. William Long the association continuing until the latter went to Louisiana to take charge of the practice of an uncle who had died. Making practical use of his training at the Virginia Military Institute, Dr Neill became captain of the Jefferson Guards an infantry company that was the pride of the county during its existence thirty-five years ago. He resigned when his practice demanded all of his attention. later he served in public position as a member of the Charles Town Council through several terms. Soon after establishing himself in his profession here, Dr Neill married a Miss Simmons, of Frederick county Md., who survives him with one son, Dr. William Neill Jr., of Baltimore and one daughter, Mrs. Neville, of Nebraska. Surviving also is one sister, Mrs. Harriet Simmons of Charles Town. The body was brought to his late home in Charles Town Thursday afternoon. Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at 4 o'clock in the Zion Episcopal Church. The interment in Zion churchyard. Rev. Conrad H. Goodwin, the Rector, conducted the service.

THE DOCTOR'S LAST MESSAGE
"Tell the people of Charles Town good-bye," he said, as the light of death grew brighter. The people of Charles Town whom he had loved so fervently and served so unselfishly, years of patient willingness and courteous bearing, made effective through a professional optimism and a friendly encouragement, made successful through a fine sense of humor and a high sense of honor. A man pose sing varied accomplishments. He could deliver a learned discourse before the medical society, and tell a most excellent story before leaving the table. To his professional bretherns he was ethical to the extreme. The writer has never heard of him doing an unprofessional act. He simply could not; too far above it.
