INDIAN WAR VETERAN

William M. Chambers (AKA William Chambers Boone) was the son of Martin R. and Elizabeth "Lizzie" Ann (Hagerty) Chambers. He was born in Sidney, Ohio.

From January 24, 1876 to January 23, 1881, in Company "F", 14th Infantry, he carried the name William M. Chambers.

MILITARY RECORD:
Enlisted 24 Jan 1876 as Pvt at Columbus, Ohio; served with Co. "T", 14th Infantry; discharged 23 Jan 1888 at Fort Douglas, Utah as a corporal. 2nd enlistment: June 23, 1881, rank Corporal, served at Fort Douglas, Utah, Co. "T", 14th Inf; and discharged in 1886 at Kansas. His third enlistment was January 25, 1886 at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas (rank of Private); discharge on January 23, 1886. Mr. Boone's fourth enlistment was as a Corporal in Company "F", 14th U. S. Infantry. He was discharged as a Sergeant on January 24, 1891. His pension, awarded December 22, 1928, was for $50 a month.

Mr. Boone was married two times. His first marriage was on March 1st, 1893 in Doe Bay, Washington, to Julia C. Viereck . He had three children from that marriage still living when he applied for admission to the Washington Veterans' Home. Two sons, Hugh and Robert Boone, were in the Navy. His daughter, Mrs. Virginia Meyers, lived at Doe Bay. His Washington Veterans Home record indicated that this marriage was ended by divorce in 1907.

It is believed that on 15 September 1906 , at Salem, Oregon he married seventy year old, Caroline C. McFadden. In the 1920 census William is listed as a widower, although no documentation can be found of any marriage between William Boone and Caroline McFadden.

He next married Lucy Willey Patterson on September 25, 1922 at Port Orchard, Washington.

William Boone was discharged from the Veterans Home on August 6, 1937.

He died September 26, 1942 at Retsil and is buried in the Washington Veterans Home Cemetery.
