Dwight S. Wallace, Industrialist, Is Dead

Dwight S. Wallace, 55, of 9 Park, Eastborough, attorney and industrialist, died Friday night.

He had been ill for some time but had been active until the last few weeks.

Mr. Wallace was legal counsel and a director of Beech Aircraft Corp. He was a member of the three-member Beech executive committee. He also was one of the organizers of the Cessna Aircraft Co. in 1934 and served as an officer of the company until he resigned in 1945. He was a brother of Dwane L. Wallace, longtime head of Cessna Aircraft.

MR. WALLACE was born June 19, 1909, in Belmont, Kan. He was a son of Dr. Eugene Wallace and was a nephew of pioneer airman Clyde Cessna.

He attended Belmont High School and was graduated from the University of Kansas law school with an LLB degree in 1933. He was admitted to the Kansas bar in 1933.

Mr. Wallace had practiced law in Wichita 31 years.

HE HAD BEEN a member of the law firms of Hart, Porter, McDonald & Wallace, of Yankey, Osborne, Sears & Wallace and more recently was the senior member of the firm of Wallace, Porter & Fair.

Mr. Wallace was named secretary-treasurer of the Cessna Aircraft Co. when it was reorganized on Jan. 10, 1934. At that time, Clyde Cessna was president and Dwane Wallace was plant manager. When he resigned he was executive vice president and treasurer.

Mr. Wallace became a director of Beech Aircraft on Dec. 8, 1949.

HE WAS ACTIVE in Wichita civic work and was president of the Chamber of Commerce in 1955. He also was a director of Fourth National Bank & Trust Co.

He was a member of East Heights Methodist Church.

Survivors include his widow, Josephine; two sons, Wayne W. and Dwight D.; a daughter, Kay K.; two brothers, Dwane L. 5 Willowbrook, Eastborough, and Dr. Deane D., Little Rock, Ark.; and a sister, Mrs. Harold M. Hubbard, Wilmington, Del. Quiring Funeral Home has charge.
