Mr. John Thomas Goodwin, a well-known farmer of Roanoke County, died of pneumonia last Saturday afternoon at the residence of his son-in-law in West Salem, aged 68. Deceased leaves a wife and seven children. The remains, escorted by Salem Castle No. 3, Knights of the Mystic Chains, of which the deceased was a member, were taken Monday evening to the Hatcher Graveyard in the Bend neighborhood and there interred in the presence of one of the largest assemblages of neighbors ever seen in that section.

His parents were Joseph and Mary Polly Jenkins Goodwin.
He was the grandson of Joseph and Margaret Catherine Thomas Goodwin and the nephew of Enos and Jesse Goodwin.
