Mr. Wendell Wayne Hawkins, 67, of Chicota, passed away Saturday morning, Jan. 13, 2001, at Christus St. Joseph's Hospital. Mr. Hawkins was born on July 26, 1933, in Hoovertown, Texas, a son of Albert J. and Eva Brown Hawkins. He worked for Smith Construction, was an Army veteran, and was a member of the Powderly Church of God. He married Shirley Marie Hawkins on Aug. 20, 1960. She survives. Other survivors include his children, Dilliha Brockway of Paris, Mike and Tina Hawkins of Balch Springs, and stepson Robert and Clara Wortham of Forest Chapel; grandchildren, Casey Greenhaw and Danny Hawkins of Paris, Michael and Mindy Hawkins of Balch Springs, Kenneth and Amy White of Reno, and Roger Urquhart of Beeville; brothers and sisters, Harold and Pearlene Hawkins of Birth wright, A.J. and Judy Hawkins of Birthright, Eva and Eddie Cooper of Troup, Linda and J.D. Haley of Forney, Patsy and John Childress of Michigan City, Ind., Treva NaIl of Michigan City, Ind., Betty and Jackie Ray of Ozark, Ala., and Mary Powell of Amarillo. He was preceded in death by a stepdaughter, Jimmie White; a great-grandson, Matthew White; two brothers, Monell Hawkins and Ray Hawkins; and three sisters, Neil, Doris, and Sadie. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 :30 p.m., Monday, Jan. 15, 2001, in the Fry-Gibbs Funeral Chapel with Rev. Billy Jordan officiating.
Burial will follow in the Forest Chapel Cemetery with Freddy Smith, Mike Smith, Freddy Smith Jr., Harley White, Kevin White, and Kenneth White serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.-m., Sunday evening at the funeral home.'
