The funeral of John H. Briscoe took place yesterday, February 19, 1894, from Church Home and Infirmary on Broadway and Baltimore Street, where he died on Friday, from an enlargement of the spleen. The service was read in the chapel by Rev. Carroll R. Harding, Chaplain of Church Home and Rector of the Protestant Episcopal Church of Our Savior. Interment was made in the Confederate Soldiers' lot in Loudon Park. The pallbearers were Col. J. Lyle Clarke, J.D. Dorsett, John Beckett, J.W.M. Thomas, Richard Roberts and J.A. Conner.
Mr. Briscoe was 62 years old and was born in St. Mary's County. He was a private in the First Maryland Confederate Artillery, in the command of Gen. R. Snowden Andrews, in the Civil War. Since the war, Mr. Briscoe has lived in Baltimore. Mr. James Briscoe, ex-Secretary of State, is his brother and Judge John P. Briscoe of the Maryland Court of Appeals, is his nephew. Mr. Briscoe was a member of the Maryland Confederate Society.
