G. Gene Cornwell, age 69, of Cook Creek Road, Murphy, NC passed away Sunday, July 6, 2008 at his residence. He was a native of Towns County, GA but had lived in Cherokee County his entire life.
He was retired from General Telephone after 30 years. He was a US Army Veteran. He loved off-roading, old cars, working on Volkswagens, sight-seeing, his kids and the beach.
He was the son of Julia May Green Caylor of Murphy, NC and the late Samuel Willard Cornwell.
He is survived by in addition to his mother, his wife, Evelyn Cornwell; two sons, Timothy Cornwell and Darrin Cornwell both of Murphy, NC; three daughters, Kimberly Green of Kennesaw, GA, Angie Cornwell of Murphy and Tina Lee of Robbinsville, NC; three brothers, Wayne Cornwell of Murphy, NC, Howard Cornwell of Acworth, GA and Harold Cornwell of Blairsville, GA; one sister, Wilma Hogsed of Warne, NC and 12 grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be held at 4:00 PM, Tuesday, July 8, 2008 at the Townson-Rose Funeral Home Chapel in Murphy, NC. Pastor Jimmy Hogsed will officiate. The family will receive friends from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM, Tuesday, July 8, 2008 at the Townson-Rose Funeral Home Chapel in Murphy, NC. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made In Memory of G. Gene Cornwell to the St. Judes Childrens Hospital.
