His parents were Jonathan Skeel (1721-56) and Abigail Slosson (1725-1813).

"Jonathan Skeel, (1749-1834), enlisted, 1775, in the Berkshire County, Massachusetts militia and was in the battle of Bennington and in the army until the surrender of Burgoyne. He was placed on the pension roll of Cortland Co., N. Y., 1831, for over one year's service of private, Massachusetts Continental Line. He was born in Kent, Conn.; died in Virgil. N. Y."
