Velma R. Acker, age 93 of Elma, IA died on Wednesday, March 18, 2009 at Colonial Manor in Elma, IA.

Velma Rosella Worple was born on May 6, 1915 to William and Eliza (Kruger) Worple on thier farm near McIntire, IA. She attended country school near her home until moving to a farm east of Elma. Velma was baptized and confirmed at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Elma. She was united in marriage to Merlyn Acker and to this union three sons were born. Velma has continued to live in Elma.

Velma enjoyed sewing, playing cards, and flower gardening. She was active with Elma Senior Citizens helping out with the senior citizen meal site, preparing and serving meals and St. Peters Lutheran Church.

Velma is survived by her three sons Gerald Acker of Elma, IA, Gary (Mary) Acker of Garden City, KS, and James Acker of Elma, IA; one sister Esther Cutsforth of Waterloo, IA; 15 grand children; 21 great grand children; several nieces and nephews.

Velma was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers Daniel, George, Lewis, Levern, and William; four sisters Lula, Rozena, Charlotte, and Viola.

Cemetery:

Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery at Riceville, IA with Chuck Cutsforth, Bob Cutsforth, Tom Miller, Denny O'Brien, Hank Smith, and Marty Krahenbuhl serving as casket bearers.
