BOYNTON BEACH, Fla. -- Bernice G. Kesslen, 92, formerly of Manchester, N.H., died Thursday, April 9, 2009, in Boynton Beach.
Mrs. Kesslen was born on Jan. 30, 1917, in Haverhill, Mass., to Israel and Lena Bloomfield.
She was raised and educated in Haverhill and, after graduating from high school, attended Simmons College.
In 1957 she married Paul Kesslen in Boston.
Mrs. Kesslen moved to Manchester in 1959 and wintered in Boynton Beach until she moved there permanently four years ago.
She is remembered as a loving and caring wife, mother and friend.
She was a member of Temple Adath Yeshurun ,where she was active in the sisterhood and co-authored a cookbook for them.
She was active in the Currier Museum of Art and Brandeis Women's Club, and was a true music lover.
IN HER LIFE: She was predeceased by her husband, Paul Kesslen, in 1990 and a sister, Beryl Richmond.
Her family includes her son, Sheldon Kesslen and his wife, Rosalie, of Boynton Beach; a sister, Sylvia Brenner of Brookline, Mass.; three grandchildren, Mark Kesslen, Heidi Verplank and Andrea Barsch; five great-grandchildren, Kayla, Benny, Charlie, Izze, Max; three nephews, James, Jonathan and Mark; and one niece, Janice.
SERVICES: A funeral service is Sunday at noon at Temple Adath Yeshurun, 152 Prospect St., with Rabbi Beth D. Davidson officiating.
Burial will follow in Children of Israel Cemetery in Haverhill, Mass.
Memorial donations may be made to the Bernice and Paul Kesslen Fund at Temple Adath Yeshurun, 152 Prospect St., Manchester 03104.
