A member and an ordained deacon of Rockwood First Baptist Church, he taught the college Sunday school class and was active in the drama ministry. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Gulf War who served on submarines. He loved his family and was an avid fisherman and University of Tennessee sports fan.
He was preceded in death by grandparents, Sam and Eula Gilmore and Tom and Maude Brewster; uncle, Melvin Brewster; and father-in-law, Walter H. Renfro Jr.
Survivors include his wife, Marty Gilmore of Rockwood; son, Tyler Gilmore of Rockwood; parents, Jim and Barbara Gilmore of Pinson, Ala.; sister and brother-in-law, Karen and Paul Hamrick of Raleigh, N.C.; mother-in-law, Dereta Renfro of Rockwood; uncle, Tom Brewster Jr. of Rockwood; aunts, Margaret Greene Jones of Sevierville and Barbara Hurd of Ellijay, Ga.; many friends; and special friends, Mike and Beth Snipes and son, Brett, of Rockwood.
Funeral service was at 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 15, in Rockwood First Baptist Church, with the Rev. Rick Roberts officiating. Graveside service, with full military honors, and burial were at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 16, at Roane Memorial Gardens, Rockwood. Evans Mortuary, Rockwood, was in charge of arrangements.
