He married Margaretha Barbara Niethammer Jan 26, 1825 in Württemberg, Germany.

He immigrated with his wife and children leaving on March 15, 1848 landing in New York. The family continued the journey to the final destination arriving in Ann Arbor, MI June 1, 1948.

Other children- Matthäus (Matthew) 1828-1855, Anna Maria Katharina (Katharine)1835-1928. Nine children were born to this family. Four died in infancy, five came to America with their parents.
