Dea. Asa Maxson Whitford, of Farina, Ill., died of typhoid fever, Aug 28, 1886, aged 74 years, 6 months and two days. He was born in Berlin, N. Y., a son of Major Edward Whitford. He remained at that place until he was about twenty-four years old; and having married Miss Catharine Coon, he moved his residence to Adams, Jefferson Co., N. Y., where he spent the next thirty-three years. Then he found a home at Farina, Ill., and lived there the remainder of his life. When about nineteen years of age, he joined the Seventh-day Baptist Church at Berlin, N. Y. While residing in Jefferson County, N. Y., he was chosen deacon of the church at Adams Centre, and discharged the duties of the position with great fidelity until his death. He was very observing and conscientious, quiet but thoughtful, took comprehensive views of general subjects, while he attended carefully to minute details embraced in those subjects. He was, therefore, specially endowed with the faculty of a sound judgment and became eminently a wise counselor. In all his attachments and labors he was discriminating and reliable to the last degree.
