Joseph P. Maggio, 73, of Springfield died at 3:11 p.m. Wednesday at St. John's Hospital. He was born Feb. 24, 1918, in Springfield, the son of Jasper and Anna Catalano Maggio. He married Doris Roberts in 1945. Preceding him in death were three brothers, Jasper, Sam and Tony. Mr. Maggio was a policeman for 28 years, retiring in 1978. He was a guard at Marine Bank for the last 13 years.
A lifelong resident of Springfield, Mr. Maggio was a member of Sacred Heart Church and the Illinois Police Association.
Surviving are his wife, Doris; a daughter, Mrs. Anna Marie Marian of Mission Viejo, Calif.; four sons, Jim, Sam, Joe and Steve Maggio, all of Springfield; nine grandchildren; a great-grandchild; mother, Mrs. Anna Maggio of Springfield; a sister, Mrs. Frances Wilkerson of Springfield; a brother, Pete Maggio of Springfield; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral Mass: Sacred Heart Church, the Rev. Stanley Milewski officiating. Burial: Calvary Cemetery.
