The following information was sourced from "The Courier-Journal" (Louisville, Kentucky), 24 May 1954, Monday, Page 13:
Billie's family was broken up in 1912 in McComb, Mississippi when their father, Thomas Rogillio Stewart, died that year. Mrs. Stewart (Addie) and young Thomas J. Stewart went to work but realized they could not support the big family. Mrs. Stewart gave the three younger girls (Billie, Julia {This name was not Julia in the 1910 census, but was Addie Bell} and Bonnie) to foster parents and kept the three oldest children (Mary, Larry and Thomas). Thomas joined the Army in 1917. In 1922, when he left the Army, he began his search for his siblings. He found Mary (McKee) and then learned his sister Bonnie, was in the Louisville, Kentucky area. Bonnie's name had been changed by her foster parents to Mary. Thomas reunited at Mrs. Mary Anderson's (formerly named Bonnie) home in Jeffersonville after 42 years. This reunion was a big step in Thomas' 30-year struggle to reunite his family. He then went to Silver City, Mississippi to visit with Mary McKee and learned that she had died two years earlier.
