Enlisting in the Army at Kelvin Grove, Brisbane on 17 July 1940, he was marched in to No. 3 Training Group from when he transferred to 6 Motor Transport Company 2/26 Battalion Head Quarters on its becoming an entity in late November 1940.
Whilst part of "F" Force he endured several bouts of Malaria, one more serious that the others caused him to be admitted to Kanchanaburi F & H No. 2 Hospital Camp where he passed away.
Originally buried in grave 035 at Kanchanaburi No. 4 Burial Grounds, his remains were later exhumed and reburied at Kanchanaburi War Cemetery.
