Louis was the younger son of German immigrant John Campen & Caroline Fredrick, and the brother of Henry Campen. He married Mary Thomas on Feb. 3, 1881, and they had 7 children: Caroline Campen Green, Leonora Campen Taft, John Campen, Bessie Campen Dewlin, Clarence Campen, Emma Campen & Henry Campen. He died at the age of 44 years & 10 months.
