Mr. Willie Edwin Callis

Mr. Willie E. Callis, aged 64 years died at his home on Gwynn's Island, Monday evening, July 22nd. Mr. Callis was a prominent citizen of the Island, and had many friends there and elsewhere. He was a Deacon in the Island Baptist Church.

Besides his widow, Mrs. Lucy E. Callis, he is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Vernon Hurst, and Mrs. J. A. Rowe, of Gwynn's Island; seven sons, Messrs Robert M. and Homer R. of Baltimore, Md., Rufus G., Eugene B., Vivian H., Leonard R. and Rodney D. Callis, of Mathews County; a brother, Mr. Eugene Callis, also of this county. Funeral services were held at the Gwynn's Island Baptist Church, Thursday afternoon at 3:30 conducted by his pastor, Rev. I. E. Belch. Interment was made in the Island Cemetery. Six of his sons were the active pallbearers.
