Mrs. Lona Walton Doss, 81, 1857 Dorchester Drive, longtime county teacher, died Sunday at a Norman nursing home following a brief illness.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Trinity Baptist Church. The Rev. Dexter Blevins, pastor, and Dr. Wayne Coffin, pastor of McFarlin United Methodist Church, will officiate.
Burial will be in IOOF Cemetery, arranged by Mayes Funeral Directors.
Mrs. Doss taught school for 42 years, 39 of then in Cleveland County. She was a teacher at New Hope School 17 years until it was consolidated into the Norman system. Mrs. Doss then taught at Adams Elementary School until her retirement in 1959.
The teacher also served at Falls School three years, Robinson School one year, and several terms at White Mount and Enterprise Schools. She had lived in this county since 1918.
Mrs. Doss was a member of Trinity Baptist Church, Order of the Eastern Star, Home Demonstration Fellowship No. 24, National Retired Teachers Association, and served on the Tuberculosis Association board several years. She was born Feb. 15, 1894 in Lafayette, Tenn.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Virginia Carr of 904 N. Berry Road; a granddaughter, Mrs. Nancy Frye of Indianapolis, Ind.; three sisters, Mrs. Allie Jones of Nashville, Tenn., Mrs. Audie Fowler and Mrs. Emma Grimes, both of Oklahoma City; three grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
