Lucy was born the 4th of August, 1857 in White county, Tennessee. She was the 3rd child of David and Mary Anderson. According to family history Alexander Mayfield was in the same military unit as David Anderson in the Civil war. When the war was over, David told Alexander "I have a pretty red haired daughter at home. You should come home with me and marry her!" That was Lucy.
Lucy married Thomas Alexander Mayfield on 23rd day of September, 1874 in Harvey county, Kansas. They lived in Marion county first, then moved to Newton. They had five children, Daniel, Pearl, Carrie, Thomas Alexander Jr., and Josephine. Thomas Jr. died in his early 20's of tuberculosis. Josephine died at the age of 15 after a two week illness. Lucy Anderson Mayfield died the 9th of August, 1926. Thomas Alexander Mayfield died the 25th September, 1930. They are buried in Section 2- Block 7- Lot 24- Spaces 4-8, Greenwood cemetery in Newton, Kansas.

Mrs. Alex Mayfield, colored, of this city, died at the home of her daughter in Minneapolis, Minn., Tuesday night about 11 o'clock, according to word received by relatives here today. Her husband was visiting in minneapolis with her.
The body will be brought to Newton for butial, arriving Friday. Funeral arrangements, which are in charge of Duff and Son, are not completed.

The funeral of Mrs. Alex Mayfield, colored, of this city, who died at the home of her daughter in Minneapolis, Minn., Tuesday night was to be held at four o'clock this afternoon at the colored Baptist church. The funeral was originally set for ten o'clock this morning, but the body failed to arrive until this afternoon. Duff and Son had charge of the arrangements, and the interment was to be m made in Greenwood cemetery.
