She is survived by her loving and steadfast husband, William Christopher Riner; her three rambunctious step-children, Jaeda, Jaxon, and Sam; her mother, Margot L. White of Portland, Oregon; her father, Herbert L. Beskin of Charlottesville; her brother, Jason L. White of Los Angeles; her stepsister, Lydia Hilles of Charlottesville; her stepmother, Sumner Brown of Charlottesville; and by her beloved canine companion, Jazzy.
Ally was a free and fearless spirit whose energy and enthusiasm were contagious. She had her own unique sense of style and a whimsical artistic talent. For better or worse, she could charm her way into and out of almost any situation, which was fortunate: she never liked doing things the easy way. Ally loved animals of all types and sizes, and was constitutionally unable to ignore a critter in distress. Many a terrified turtle owed its life to Ally's roadside assistance. She cherished her friends, and was passionately loyal to them.
Most importantly, she was grateful to have found in Chris the soulmate and devoted partner she had been searching for. She was amazed at how quickly she came to relish her new roles as stepmother to his three children, who renamed her "Tinkerbell" and made her feel needed, and as surrogate daughter to Chris' parents, Linda and Eugene Riner, who gave her their love and made her an integral part of their family.
Ally was always ready for action and moving full speed ahead. Those of us who loved her are grieving the loss of all those adventures that now will never be, all those fun-with-an-attitude moments we will never be able to share with her. We will remember the smile that lit up the room, as well as the mischievous grin that sometimes spelled trouble. She was a true pistol, and proud of it.
Family and friends are invited to a viewing at Hill and Wood Funeral Home at 201 North First Street in Charlottesville from 7 until 8:30 p.m. Saturday, April 25, 2009.
A funeral service will be held at St. Paul's Episcopal Church at 1700 University Avenue in Charlottesville, 2 p.m. Sunday, April 26th.
Instead of flowers, the family asks that any donations be made in celebration of Ally's life to the Charlottesville-Albemarle SPCA. She and Jazzy would find that a fitting memorial.
