Derek Allen Jasper, 18, son of David John and Jennifer Bischoff Jasper, of South Ogden, died on April 22, 2009 of injuries sustained in an automobile accident in Ogden.

He was born at the Cottonwood Hospital in Murray, Utah on July 9, 1990.

Derek's warm and happy personality endeared him to everyone who knew him. He will be remembered for his contagious smile and caring personality.

A frugal and hard-working individual, Derek has been employed at Domino's Pizza in South Ogden for three years, currently employed as the assistant manager. He had prepared himself financially and spiritually to serve an LDS Church mission and was awaiting his call this week. He had planned to attend college at the conclusion of his mission.

Derek was a 2008 graduate of Bonneville High School and LDS Seminary in Ogden. In high school he participated in performance music groups, including Tapestry.

He loved sports, and was en route home from playing basketball when the accident occurred. Holding the rank of Eagle Scout, Derek lived the Scout Law. He had a compassionate nature and was always happy to serve others.

He loved the out-of-doors, especially hiking and camping. Most important in Derek's life was his love for his family and friends, who will treasure their many experiences with him. He loved cars, snowboarding and especially hanging out with his friends.

Derek is survived by his parents; brothers, Michael David, Brian Kenneth; and a sister, Rachel Ellen Jasper of South Ogden; grandparents, Kenneth Dean and Mary Ellen Bischoff, Perry; Ione Jasper, Smithfield; a great-grandmother, Marian W. Bischoff, Smithfield; and numerous extended family members. Derek was preceded in death by his grandfather, John T. Jasper.

A viewing will be held on Monday, April 27, 2009 at the Burch Creek LDS Stake Center, 4955 South Adams Avenue, Ogden, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, April 28, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at the Church, with a viewing scheduled from 9-11:00 a.m. prior to the services.
