John was the son of Thomas Burns Kinzer and Lucretia S. Patterson (Compton). He married Nevada Mae Grimm. John and Nevada were the parents of Eva Elora Kinzer Monk (1899-1970), Harper Burns Kinzer (1901-), and F. Alton Kinzer (1904-), in addition to those listed below.
