The Lansing youth was killed in action October 3 1944 in France. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Young, have received the Purple Heart Medal awarded to him. The Purple Heart Medal which the War department awarded their son posthumously when he was killed in action October 3in France, has been received by Mr and Mrs Frank Young, Lansing.
Young, a native of Lansing, had been serving in France some time when he suffered the wounds that proved fatal to him. Details of his death have not been sent to the Youngs for security reasons, but will be forwarded when permissible.
The soldier went overseas last June and for a time was stationed in England. Young graduated in 1940 from Lansing Rural High School and was employed by the Farm Credit Administration in Kansas City before entering the armed forces in March 1943.
Two letters expressing regret and sympathy at their son’s death have reached the Young family, from the Commander of Tom’s outfit, the 315th Infantry regiment, and the 79th division, of which it is a part.
A brother, RMD 3-C Arthur Young, is serving in the South Pacific. Two other Young boys, Eugene and William, live at the home in Lansing.
