Harlin Nelson, 78, of Halifax Avenue, a retired State of Florida inspector, died Monday at Hospice of Port Orange. Mr. Nelson, an Army Air Forces veteran of World War II, was born in Alabama, and moved to this area in 2001 from Freeport. A Shriner, he was a member of the Jacksonville lodge. He attended Auburn and Vanderbilt universities. He enjoyed football and nature. Survivors include his wife of 28 years, Juanita; two daughters, Melinda Letterman, Memphis, Tenn., and Elizabeth Schmitt, West Palm Beach; two stepdaughters, Wanda Hucks, Ormond Beach, and Martha Fordham, Sanford; two sisters, Dot Black and Ann Corley, and a brother, Joe, all of Alabama; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Volusia/Flagler, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, FL 32129. National Cremation, South Daytona, is in charge.
