Thomas was married three times. 1st wife Zibiah (Pruitt)Prewitt, 2nd wife Kizziah (Kizzie) P. Bond, 3rd wife Ada Griffith. Thomas was the father of eight children: from 1st wife, Dr. Robert Pruitt Blackwell; from 2nd wife, Charles J. Blackwell, Adeliza(Addie)Dockery, Sarah (Anna) Julian,and Nicholas (Nick) Tolliver Blackwell; from 3rd wife, Mary Blackwell, George Lawrence Blackwell, Lucy Blackwell, and Fred. H. Blackwell.
Parents of Thomas P. Blackwell are Joseph Blackwell Jr. and Elizabeth McGehee.

News of the death of Col. Tom Blackwell, who died at his home at Grace, this county Thursday night, reached this city today. He was about 65 years of age.
Col. Tom Blackwell was possibly one of the best know and most highly respected citizens in this section of the country. He was at one time county assessor. At the time of his death he was a progressive farmer. His brother,
Col. Lawrence Blackwell, died in this county only a few months ago. A wife, several sons and daughters, are left to mourn his death. We extend our sympathy to the bereaved.
