Daniel Towne Ladd was born in No. 9, Canada ( some records say Pontiac, Michigan) on April 11, 1827 - died at his home in Cairo, Kansas May 22, 1914 at the age of 87 years, one month and 11 days. He was married to Margaret James on September 22, 1848. To this union, 10 children were born. Five sons and 5 daughters, six of whom survive him. Four sons and two daughters, they being D.O. and F.O. Ladd, Mrs. Phila Stearns of Cairo, Arthur of Mooreland ( actually Richmond) Oklahoma , Frank of Elk Grove, California, and Mrs. Jennie Goldsmith of Michigan. He leaves one sister, nineteen grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.
He came to Detroit, Michigan when a boy, and lived there until the spring of 1884, when he came to Pratt County, and lived there continuously ever since. His wife died in Pratt County in 1886. Since that time he has made his home with his son D.O. Ladd. He never united with any church but he has always lived an honest upward Christian life. He expressed himself as being satisfied with his life and said he was ready and willing to go. He belonged to the Masonic Lodge No 72 in Dearborn Michigan. Many friends sympathize with his bereaved family.
