A son of Eleazer & Mary (Scripture) Lawrence. He married Ruth Brown on April 13, 1728 in Stow, MA.
Deacon Peleg Lawrence was admitted a voter in Littleton, Massachusetts in 1738, but did not reside long in that town. He removed to Groton West Parish, afterwards Pepperell, where he became actively interested in town and church affairs. He served as selectman of Groton three years and was twice chosen deer-reeve. At a church meeting at the meeting house of Pepperell West Parish, August 23, 1754, they voted to choose two Deacons, and unanimously made choice of Brother Peleg Lawrence for the first. His letter of acceptance was read publicly the following October.
Explanation:
The word "reeve" means a "minor town office." Its etymology is not known but it comes from the Olde English. The Deer Reeve was the game warden.
