She loved to shop and many mornings took the city bus to downtown Spokane and went from store to store. Vera was a fanatical housekeeper and was known to suddenly enlist Charley's help at midnight to move all the living room furniture and start vacuuming the rugs to find that mote of dirt.
Vera suffered several months of failing health and she died at the age of 67 from cancer September 19, 1963. A service was held in Spokane and a graveside service was held in Joseph at the Prairie Creek Cemetery where she was buried in the Cole family plot.
