Death of Mrs. Gerhard Ihnken
After a lingering illness of several months. Mrs Gerhard Ihnken breathed her last Friday morning October 26, 1888
Mrs Ihnken was a native of Miley, Meuse France having been born there May 13, 1824, hence she was 64 years and five month old at the time of her death.
Her maiden name was Marie Jean Pichot. She left France Nov. 2, 1842 to join the Casto colony at Castroville, Texas. she arrived in San Antonio, February 20th 1844, where she, with others remained for two years; the savages being so warlike it was impractical to settle the colony earlier.
On October 22,1846 she married Mr Gerhard Ihnken in the frontier town of Castroville, who proved to her a loving and kind husband up to the hour of her death. She was buried Sunday evening last with Catholic ceremony of which church she had been a devoted member for many years. Her remains were followed to their last resting place by one of the largest funeral processions, perhaps ever witnessed in Castroville.
