Dave was the son of E.P. Davidson and Vera Rebecca Venable.

He enlisted in the Army in 1943. He was a paratrooper, in the 82nd Airborn, dropping over France during the Invasion of Normandy. In spite of frost bite to his feet, he completed his mission, and was cited for Loyalty and Bravery in Combat.

During the continuing battle, he received a traumatic head injury, which caused bouts with depression, amnesia and occasional disorientation the rest of his life.

He received treatment and medical care at the V.A. Hospital in Miami, Dade County, Florida. He lost several toes, and the placement of a metal plate in his head as a result of his injuries.

In 1947, Dave married his first wife, Jacquelyn Mardell Flowers and they had two daughters. They lived first in Texas, and then returned to Florida, where Dave was a mechanic and co-owner of a garage near Homestead, Florida. Jacqueline and Dave separated and divorced between 1954 and 1956.

It was reported Dave died near Homestead, Florida in a motorcycle accident in 1956, but it was later discovered he died in Texas in 1986.

He was buried at San Patricio Gardens, from the Charles Marshall Funeral Home in Aransas Pass, Texas. There's a small war memorial with a flagpole, provided by a Dudley Ives of VFW POST 6386, next to small Oak tree. Dave's grave is only about 12 feet to the left rear of the memorial.
