From Robert J. Rocheteau's Webpage - www.rocheteau.org:

"Though a Roman Catholic until adulthood, Alex later became a well-known Baptist minister and circuit preacher. According to some traditions, he had earlier in his marriage tried to convert his first wife (who was a church going Baptist) to "the true religion" while it was she who took the children to Sunday services while he stayed home. But one day, while plowing a field near their home in Aloha, Louisiana (late 1890's), he experienced a religious revelation which resulted in his dropping to his knees in that field and dedicating himself to the Lord. After that he pursued religious education and would be no longer a farmer and storekeeper but instead a minister of the gospel. Years later, I have met many people who told me of his persuasive powers and indeed he not only converted his parents but many others in Louisiana and other more distant places to the Baptist faith. They could still remember in the 1980's though Alex had died over forty years previously."
