No one is sure how she died - family secrets prevented any knowledge of what became of Grace and her husband Charles.

The following were the children of Grace and Charles: Richard (Dickie) Wheelhouse, Wesley Wheelhouse, Stanley Wheelhouse McGruder, Dora Wheelhouse Alvis, Geneva Wheelhouse Bradley & Geraldine Wheelhouse Maith - Geraldine may have had a twin brother that died at birth. There may have been other children born of Grace and Charles.

For reasons unknown, the children had been placed in an orphanage in Petersburg, VA. Stanley was adopted by the McGruder family. Dora ran away from the orphanage when she was 15 and lived in Indiana. The others grew up in the orphanage. It was rumored that Richard (Dickie) Wheelhouse later committed suicide.
