Russell was born to the late Russell and Nellie (Brown) Light. He married Sue Bean on May 18, 1963, in Lacon. They divorced in 1985 but remained friends until she preceded him in death on June 28, 2005.
He was also preceded in death by Elsie Smith, his grandmother, by whom he was raised.
He is survived by longtime companion, Avis Elms and her family; two sons, Russell (Kim) Light II and Chris (Cyndi) Light; three daughters, Angie (Mark) McGruder, Becky (Dave) Wiley and Darla Chismark; six brothers, Bill, Dennis, Aaron and Jeff Light and Wayne and Joe Brown; six sisters, Ann Day, Velma Brown, Audrey Brown, Christine Schafer, Cindy Alfonso and Laurel Law; 17 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was a welder at Caterpillar Inc. in East Peoria for 25 years, retiring in 2001.
