Erik Mikkelson Lee was born in Skrautval, Valdres, Norway, the son of Mikkel and Ingeborg Lee.

Olea Oldsteter Lee and Erik (sometimes spelled Eric or Erick) Mikkelson emigrated from Norway with their children Ingeborg, Ole, and Martin. In Sor-Aurdal, Valdres, Norway they lived on the Li or Lee farm.

The first part of their journey took them from Christiania (now Oslo) to Liverpool. The second portion of the their journey was aboard the Britannia from Liverpool to the United States, arriving on January 11, 1886. They appear to have used the surname Lee in Barron County, the name of the farm they lived on in Norway.

Children Martinus, Olaus, Elise, Ida, and Nellie were born to the couple in Wisconsin.

Olea preceded Erik in death by seven years He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Nellie. He was treated by Dr. L. W. Simonson for his afflictions from January 15, 1933 until his death on April 5th. Erik's daughter, Ida (Mrs. Edwin Huset) served as informant/witness of his death.
