Gene left high school to join the Merchant Marines and traveled before he settled down to marry and raise a large family. He and his first wife had four children. He met his second wife in college. Her husband had died as a result of an auto accident, leaving a her with four young children, so she too had entered college. Together they had a son so soon became parents of a large, blended family.
Gene acquired a certificate in mechanical engineering and became a draftsman to design machinery for various companies. He retired from Salem Equipment in Salem. Gene was preceded in death by a step-daughter, a step-son and his daughter Tammy.
To know him was to love him--his laugh was infectious.
