Josephine was married October 4,1892 to John Lewis Ness in Camden,NJ. They set up housekeeping with the Lewis parents in Fairfield where Reuben had a butcher shop. Shortly after their first child was born they moved back to York,PA. They were the parents of eight children. Wilbur Reeser Ness(Bertha Gilbert); Murray E.(m.Mary Ruler); Earl L.; John Lewis,Jr.(m. Mary Bauer); Mary Josephine(Henry Boeckel); Henry C.(m.Margaret Dempwolf); Eleanor R.(Evans C. Goodling); Pauline V.(William McElhiney).
They lived in several locations around York. Lewis died of a stroke in 1936 leaving her with much debt. Her son Henry then bought her a house in York where she lived until her move to a nursing home in 1961. He also put her on the payroll at his company and she lived in comfort the remainder of her years.
Her great grandson remembers the annual Christmas gatherings where there would always be a crowd of relatives and of course wonderful food. He was especially fond of her sand tarts...and would also walk a mile or more twice a week in high school for lunch.
She drove until her Dr. told her to quit at the age of 84. Not only did she love to cook but she also loved to fish.
She is lovingly remembered by all her family.
