Alta Harriet Paul, 88, died at Green Acres Country Care Center on July 6, 2005.

Alta was born in North Branch on June 6, 1917 to albert and Alma (Okerstrom) Anderson. She attended and graduated from North Branch High School in 1935.

In 12th grade she had tuberculosis and stayed from February of 1935 to January of 1936 at the sanatorium in Pine City. After her recovery she attended two years of nurse’s training and received her LPN license.

She moved to Eau Claire, Wisc. and worked at Mr. Washington Hospital. In 1945 Alta attended Gradwohl school in St. Louis, Missouri and studied to become a lab technician. She then moved to Beaumont, Texas working as a lab tech in a doctor’s office.

In the 1950's she worked at Rush City Hospital and from 1968 to 1982 at St. Croix Clinic / Hospital as a lab technician.

In 1948 she met and married Louis H. Paul in Boston. Paul was a military man and so for the next 30 years they traveled and lived all over the United States and in Japan and Puerto Rico.

Alta enjoyed Sun City, Ariz. where she lived for a number of years before returning to Minnesota. She also enjoyed piano, flower arranging, sewing, cooking and of course travel. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star Chapter 148 and a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in North Branch.

Alta was preceded in death by husband Louis H. Paul, parents Albert and Alma Anderson, and dear friend Evelyn Anderson.

She is survived by her brother Glen A. Anderson of North Branch, niece Gail L. Vande Kamp (Gary) and daughters SFC Cari L. Vande Kamp of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Heather Heavirland (Pat) of Rush City and Heidi Kubes (John) also of North Branch; sister-in-law Mary Lamb of Mason City, Iowa, cousins Clayton Anderson, Phil and Clarice Anderson, Norma Hjeltman, Gladys Kaltenhauser and Merle Okerstrom and their families.

Funeral services were held on Friday, July 8, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in North Branch. Interment was in the church cemetery. Arrangements by Grandstrand Funeral Home, North Branch Chapel.
