Oscar Alfred Johnson, 90, of North Branch died on April 15, 1998 at Green Acres Country Care Center.

Oscar was born on July 23, 1907 to Alfred and Matilda (Swenson) Johnson in North Branch. He graduated from North Branch High School in 1926. On June 17, 1929 he married Maxine Leander.

Oscar farmed his parents' farm three miles east of North Branch on Hwy. 95, buying it in 1947. It was sold in 1969.

He worked for the local telephone company in the 1930s as a lineman and repairman.

During his farming years, he worked for a silo company in Lindstrom and also with Edgar Miller doing barn renovations.

After selling the farm, he worked at Forester Boats in Wyoming and at Federal Cartridge in New Brighton, becoming a machinist shortly before his retirement in 1972.

Oscar served on the Branch Township Board as treasurer for many years. He was a 4H leader along with his wife, Maxine, for 10 years. He was a member of several farm groups, a lifelong member of the North Branch community and of Trinity Lutheran Church.

Oscar is survived by his wife; by sons: Lowell (Dawn) of North Branch; Daryl (Jan) of Highlands Ranch, CO, Steven (Patty) of Saratoga, WY, Richard (Terry) of Louisburg; one daughter, LuAnn (Gary) Rod of Bowman, MT; brother Carl of Sacramento, CA; six grandchildren: Candice (Daniel) Quam of North Branch, Melissa (Chris) Croda of Cottage Grove OR, Jeremiah Johnson of Marshall, Abbey and Robert Johnson of Louisburg, Eli (Akiko) Rod of Fairfield, CA; three great-grandchildren: Quiana and Devin Quam and Kajsa Croda; other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were April 18 at Trinity Lutheran Church in North Branch with the Rev. Clayton Rudolph officiating. lnterment was in the church cemetery.

Arrangements were by Grandstrand Funeral Home, North Branch.
