Lima Man Killed In Crash

Robert Bishop Dies Shortly After Mishap

An auto-truck collision in Route 25, five miles north of Lima, Tuesday afternoon claimed the life of a 31-year-old Ohio Power Co. employee and sent an Indianapolis truck driver to Memorial hospital for treatment.

Killed was Robert Bishop, of 327 N. Pierce-st, assistant superintendent of the meter department of the power company, who died in Memorial hospital at 6:30 p.m., four hours after the mishap. Raymond Harrington, of 45 S. West St., Indianapolis, was treated for small scalp lacerations.

With the death of Bishop, Allen-co recorded its fourth traffic fatality of the year, Coroner Burt Hibbard reported.

State highway patrolmen from the Lima outpost and Coroner Hibbard said the collision occurred when the 1937 sedan operated by Bishop which was en route to Lima, skidded on wet pavement and struck the side of a truck-trailer going north and operated by Harrington.

The mishap occurred about 125 feet north of a stalled truck owned by the Brown Avenue Trucking Co. of Toledo and driven by Howard Naw, of Maumee. This truck was not involved in the crash.

Patrolmen said the Bishop car, after striking the truck, bounded back into the ditch on the right side of the road and the truck ran into a field, knocking over a small section of fencing, and turned over several times.

BOTH DRIVERS ALONE AT TIME

Bishop, who suffered a fractured skull, and lacerations of the right knee, was thrown from the front to the rear seat. Both drivers were alone.

The truck owned by Harrington was loaded with dog food.

Ohio Power Co. attaches reported that Bishop had been associated with the organization since June, 1933, and had been in the meter department all the time.

He was returning to Lima after inspecting lines near Bluffton.

Bishop, a native of Johnstown, Pa., is survived by several brothers and sisters in Johnstown, New York and Michigan. The Knights of Columbus will gather at the Davis-Miller and Son funeral home at 7 p.m. Wednesday to conduct services. At 10 p.m. Wednesday the body will be shipped to Johnstown for services and burial.
