Rhoda Carlton (Cram) Crum was the daughter of Peter Cram and Rebecca Carlton, natives of New Hampshire. She was one of six children: Rhoda Carlton Cram, Moses Cram, Elizabeth Cram, Henry L Cram, Virgil Cram (d.y.), Mark P Cram and Eunice Cram, born in New Hampshire and Illinois. The family moved from New Hampshire to Macon County, Illinois about 1858 and to Moniteau County, Missouri before 1880. Peter Cram was a farmer.

Rhoda was the second wife of Nathaniel Anderson Crum, the son of Anderson Pigg Crum and Litiia Akers, natives of Patrick County, Virginia. Rhoda and Nathaniel were married April 21, 1885 in Moniteau County. They were the parents of William Nathaniel Crum "Little Billy" who died at the age of thirteen in 1904. Nathaniel Crum was a farmer and had served in the Confederate Army during the
Civil War.
