June Eileen Nichol, age 88, of Battle Creek died peacefully on Sunday afternoon, May 3, 2009 at the Lifespan Good Samaritan Residence. She was born in Ironton, Ohio on May 24, 1920 the daughter of Harry J. and Pearl E. (Justice) Daniel. She retired in 1987 after more than 20 years of faithful service to the Battle Creek Township and Emmett Township Clerk's Offices. June happily married James "Lloyd" Nichol in Ironton, Ohio on June 20, 1943. Sadly, James preceded her in death on February 18, 2002. She is survived by her children, James (Bonnie) Nichol of California, Julaine (Frank) Paltelki and Christie (Robert) Davis, both of Battle Creek; a daughter-in-law, Jude Nichol of Arizona; her grandchildren, Brian and Steven Nichol, Tracy Hodge, Paul Michael Paltelki and Susan Moore; and her great-grandchildren, Jeffrey Blowers, Paige and Katie Nichol, Paul Michael Jr. and Grady Paltelki and Braeden and Kailyn Moore. June was also preceded in death by 2 sons, Thomas and Lawrence Nichol; a granddaughter, Pamela Bess; a great-granddaughter, Victoria Clare Paltelki; her parents and a brother, Paul Daniel. June was a lifelong member of the First Congregational Church, Battle Creek and was very active in the Chapel Circle and various other activities within the church. She was also a life-member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority XI Master Chapter and along with her husband Lloyd, was a former member of the Revelers Dance Club. June loved to boat on the Ohio River when she was younger, and more recently enjoyed dancing, sewing, reading and ceramics. She also loved to travel with her husband and family and said one of her favorite vacations was when she and Lloyd took a river cruise on the "Mississippi Queen". June's true love in life was holidays, family gatherings and spending time with her family and friends, but especially time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. At the request of the family, they will receive friends 6:00 8:00 p.m., Thursday, May 7, 2009 at the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home. Funeral services to celebrate June's life will be held 1:00 p.m., Friday, May 8, 2009 at the funeral home with Rev. Thomas J. Ott of the First Congregational Church, officiating. Entombment will follow at Floral Lawn Memorial Gardens. Memorials made to the Lifespan Good Samaritan Hospice Residence or the First Congregational Church, would be appreciated.
