Ralph E. Head, 84, of 1723 Barrett St., died at his home early Fri. morning, Feb. 11, 1994 after suffering an apparent heart attack.
Born Nov. 4, 1909 in Sheboygan, he was a son of Fred G. and Elizabeth (McTaggart) Head. He graduated from Sheboygan Central High School in 1927.
On June 24, 1944, he married Viola O. Voss at St. Clement's Catholic Parish rectory.
Ralph served in the US Army Air Corps, 7th Air Force, 25th Bombardier Group, during WW II in the Asiatic Pacific Theater. He served from Mar. 22, 1942 to Sept. 13, 1945 and trained at Scott Field Radio School and Aerial Gunnery School. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross with one Oak Leaf Cluster, the Air Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters, the Good Conduct Medal and the Asiatic Pacific Theater Campaign Ribbon.
Ralph was a salesman for Weaver's Inc. for 17 years, retiring in 1981. He previously worked for Chicago & Nothwestern Railroad for 11 years and Rexine Co. for several years. He was a member of St. Dominic Catholic Church, VFW Wolf-Olson Post No. 1230, the 11th Bombardier Group (H) Association, AARP Chapter 338 and AARP National. He enjoyed woodworking.
Ralph is survived by his wife, Viola; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Madeline Head, Sheboygan; five nephews and nieces [Thomas Head], a sister-in-law; a brother-in-law; and his friend; other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Alice Head Somme (sic, Sommer) and a brother, Roy V. Head.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m., Mon., Feb. 14, at St. Dominic Catholic Church, N. 21st and Geele Ave., by the Rev. Donald A. Elverman, pastor. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Lippert Funeral home on Sun., from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. and at the church on Mon., from 10 a.m. until the time of mass. A parish vigil will be held at the funeral home at 6 p.m., on Sun., followed by a memorial service conducted by VFW Post No. 1230 at 6:30 p.m.
